The second stage of NCVD is focused towards the PCI Registry. There were 9,000 PCI procedures done in Malaysia yearly and it costs the government RM 50 million a year. This amount and the number of procedures are increasing every year. Yet, we don’t have any information on the outcome of the procedures. After the launching of NCVD-ACS registry, once again the cardiologists sat together with a high strength of mind to initiate the second registry under National Cardiovascular Disease Database (NCVD). An opportunity for collaboration comes around with the Melbourne Interventional Group (MIG), Australia in the process of development of PCI registry. The NCVD-PCI registry was initiated on the 13th January 2007; chaired by Dato’ Dr Rosli Mohd Ali, National Heart Institute. It started with participation of 12 source data providers (SDP) involving government, universities and private hospitals throughout Malaysia.

The objectives are to:

i.

Determine the number, evaluate and monitor the outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) based on selected performance indicators.

ii. Determine the cost to the nation by cardiovascular disease and the cost-effectiveness of treatment and prevention programs.
iii. Determine the efficiency of, and adherence to current guidelines of treatment guidelines.
iv. Stimulate and facilitate research of cardiovascular disease using this database.
v. Facilitate quality improvement activities, e.g. DBT in Primary PCI.
vi. As a reference for future studies, etc volume, pattern of practice, temporal trend, etc. Facilitate future research; benchmark with other National Registries.

Latest reporting:
From 1st January 2007 to date 19th August 2008, a total of 5,305 cases were reported online by 9 SDPs.

NCVD is grateful to the supportive SDPs for their precious efforts in submitting their data.
Thank you very much!
