The National Cardiovascular Disease Database (NCVD) is established to integrate various databases that are available in our country and other data source to achieve nation-wide cardiovascular database. The NCVD was officially launched on the 31st March 2006 by Dato’ Dr Ghani Mohamed Din, the Deputy Director General of Health Malaysia during the 10th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) of National Heart Association of Malaysia (NHAM) in Hilton Kuala Lumpur/ Le Meridien KL Sentral. The NCVD-ACS registry is the first stage in realizing the rationale of the nation-wide cardiovascular database. The registry is chaired by Dato’ Dr Jeyaindran Sinnadurai, Kuala Lumpur Hospital and Dato’ Dr Azhari Rosman, National Heart Institute. Started with 6 pilot sites, now it’s expanded to 13 active sites. After all the effort put in, this year we’re publishing our 1st Annual Report of the NCVD-ACS Registry 2006.

The objectives are to:

i.

Determine the number and the time trend of acute coronary syndromes in Malaysia.

ii. Determine the socio demographic profiles of these patients to better identify the high-risk group in our Malaysian population.
iii. Determine the efficiency of, and adherence to current guidelines of treatment guidelines.
iv. Determine the cost to the nation by cardiovascular disease and the cost-effectiveness of treatment and prevention programs.
v. Stimulate and facilitate research of cardiovascular disease using this database.
